ACIPHEX® (rabeprazole) is a type of prescription medication known a Proton-Pump Inhibitor, or PPI for short. ACIPHEX® can treat heartburn, stomach ulcers, gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), and esophageal damage. It can also treat conditions such as Zollinger-Ellison syndrome that cause excess stomach acid. This medication may be used with antibiotics to treat H. pylori stomach infections and ulcers.
If you are using the tablets, take your dose by mouth with or without food as directed by your doctor, usually 1 to 2 times daily. Swallow the tablet whole with water. Do not crush, chew, or split the tablet. Doing so can release all of the drug at once, increasing the risk of side effects.
Common side effects of ACIPHEX® include rash or itching, upset stomach, diarrhea, gas, sore throat, headache, insomnia, or nervousness.
Less common, but more serious side effects include liver damage (hepatitis), abnormal brain function or structure (encephalopathy), and dizziness. Contact your doctor immediately if you experience any of these side effects.
Brand-name ACIPHEX® is available for as little as $5 per fill for eligible patients. See Savings Card page for eligibility and enrollment criteria
